Improving Clarity and Usability in Specialized Hand Therapy Care

In collaboration with an Alaska-based hand therapy clinic, this project reimagined the digital experience for Alaska Hand Rehabilitation, a practice specializing in upper-extremity care delivered by licensed Occupational and Physical Therapists, including Certified Hand Therapists (CHTs). While the clinical expertise was highly specialized, the existing website felt cluttered and difficult to navigate, creating friction for new and returning patients.

Through an in-depth UX evaluation, I identified a need for clearer information hierarchy, simplified patient journeys, and a calmer visual language aligned with healthcare best practices. The redesign focused on decluttering content, improving scannability, and establishing a structured layout system to make complex medical information more accessible and approachable.

The Outcome:
  • Healthcare Clarity: A streamlined information architecture that helps patients quickly understand services, credentials, and next steps.

  • Patient-First UX: Reduced cognitive load through clean layouts, improved readability, and intuitive navigation patterns.¨

  • Professional Credibility: A design language that reflects clinical expertise while remaining warm and approachable.

  • Responsive Accessibility: A fully responsive experience optimized for patients across devices and accessibility needs.

This project demonstrates how thoughtful UX/UI design can transform specialized healthcare content into a clear, trustworthy, and patient-centered digital experience.
